Who is Superman?

Has Smallville's Tom Welling been offered the lead in Superman film?

The rumour mill has gone into overdrive since Friday when the fan site Superman-V.com reported that Smallville star Tom Welling would don the red cape to play Superman in the new film version.

Not so says the Dark Horizons website, who insists that the film's prducer, Bryan Singer is looking for an unknown.

There spy, known as 'The Doc', says "Tom Welling has not been offered Superman by Bryan Singer. Singer wants an unknown in the lead role. Trust me when I say Tom Welling will not be the next Superman. I'm not sure how that rumour came about but it's bogus."

The Doc adds that casting will cover the whole of North America, with tapes being looked at before a final screen test. An announcement could be forthcoming as early as September he says.
