Comic events round-up

Comic festival and competition details.

The next month sees not one, but two comic conventions taking place - the long established Comic Festival comes to London and new kid on the block Comic Expo launches in Bristol.

Taking place on 22-24 October, at the Holiday Inn, Bloomsbury, the London Comic Festival features events such as a lecture by two Viz ex-editors titled Swearing is Big and Clever, and the chance to see comic superstar Grant Morrison interviewed by Jonathan Ross. There'll also be signings, portfolio sessions, debates and, of course, lots and lots of comic stalls.

Then, a few weeks later, West Country comics fans get to enjoy the first Comic Expo, taking place between 6-7 November at the Ramada Plaza Hotel.

Guests include Mike Carey (Lucifer), Simon Furman and Andrew Wildman (Transformers), plus Timeslip stars Spencer Banks and Cheryl Burfield team-up with Look-In artist Mike Noble for a signing.

Finally, there's a chance for budding comics writers to see their ideas in pen and ink. New independent comic Futurequake is running a script competition, with a top prize of seeing your story brought to life by hot art duo Inaki Miranda and Eva de la Cruz (Judge Dredd for the Metro Newspaper, The Chase).

To enter, just send a story of no more than six panels, consisting of dialogue only to futurequake@aol.com.
