Dead Zone 7

Review: a twin dilemma for Johnny in Looking Glass.

Like Star Trek films, the Dead Zone seems to alternate between inventive thrillers and schmaltz fests. This week's episode is an enigmatic puzzler, as Johnny is challenged to solve a murder - by the murderers....

Only, it turns out that Johnny is being set up by two smart alec lawyer twins, making a point about visions being an invasion of privacy - but then, their fake victim is really murdered - what is going on?

It's a nice concept, and features some dazzling visual effects as Johnny wanders through a frozen gift shop, ducking around soap bubbles and silly string, but the idea swiftly grinds to a halt.

The murder only ever really has two suspects, and, as they're twins who behave identically, neither has a character between them. So, it's easier to work out which twin killed the other one's girlfriend than remember their names.

Unsatisfying as it ultimately is, it's cleverly done, and raises some interesting questions about Johnny touching people without their consent. There's something brewing in the background...
