Tapping of tiny feet

Stargate SG-1 star Amanda Tapping is expecting her first child.

Amanda Tapping, who plays Lieutenant Colonel Samantha Carter in the long-running wormhole series has revealed that she is expecting a baby next March.

One thing Tapping is very clear on is that she doesn't want her bump to be written into the series. "It would so change [Carter] if she were a mom. I just don't think that she would be back with the Stargate programme," the Sci Fi wire website reported her saying.

Tapping, who has also recently played powerful mystic Lady Elfarran in the Sci Fi Channel's Earthsea mini-series, noted that her timing had been good. "We ended [filming on Stargate] just as I was starting to really show, and because for most of the last couple of weeks I was playing a different version of Carter it worked out that we could cover it up very well."

Stargate-SG1 is in its eighth season in the US, with Channel Four showing the seventh season at 4.35pm on Sundays in the UK.
