TV's Riddler dies

Frank Gorshin has died at the age of 72.

Gorshin played the Riddler in the Batman TV series, from 1966 to 1969, opposite Adam West as Batman.

He died on Tuesday having "put up a valiant fight with lung cancer, emphysema and pneumonia," his wife Christina said in a statement.

A famous impressionist, he continued acting until recently. His last role was as himself in an episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation directed by Quentin Tarantino being screened in the US on Thursday.

Adam West said of his co-star, "Frank will be missed. He was a friend and fascinating character."

The Joker's laugh was just his own, "I fooled around with all kinds of different laughs," Gorshin once revealed, "and then I found out that when I do laugh I get this high-pitched laugh and I thought, 'This is what I'm going to use'".
