Dusty Springfield

The first Dusty Springfield single, 'I Only Wanna Be With You', zoomed to the top 10 everywhere in 1963. When it became a hit in the US, Dusty became the first British female singer to chart in America.

But 'You Don't Have To Say You Love Me', in 1966, was Dusty Springfield's biggest chart success. The song was written by Simon Napier-Bell who went on to guide the career of Wham! amongst others, and was even the title of his first volume of memoirs.

Dusty first reached the charts with her brother Tom and Tim Field as the originally named Springfields but she went her own way in 1963.

After 18 hits in seven years Dusty faded from the charts until The Pet Shop Boys teamed up with her to record 'What Have I Done To Deserve This' in 1987. Dusty sadly died in 1999 aged 60.
