The first season was so poorly received in the UK that it was replaced in
the Midlands by a farming programme.
The Pythons broke all the rules and their favourite targets included
pompous bureaucrats, upper-class twits, lower-class twits in knotted handkerchiefs
and, of course, accountants.
The programmes were made up of sketches that did away with punch lines
and instead blundered from sketch to sketch with the help - or should
it be hindrance - of bizarre animations by resident cartoonist Terry
Gilliam.
