Jack Nicholson


The Shining

Stanley Kubrick's adaptation of Stephen King's horror novel. Frustrated writer Jack Torrence (Jack Nicholson) takes a job as winter caretaker in a remote mountain hotel so he can write in peace. He takes his wife Wendy and son Danny with him.

The outgoing manager of the hotel tells Jack how a previous caretaker went mad and murdered his family. Jack doesn't see this as a problem but Danny's 'shining' creates hallucinations and time warps.

Danny cruises the empty corridors on his tricycle, seeing apparitions of the murdered family, and Jack's sanity is soon affected.

Then, of course, there was the whole thing with the axe...
