Adam Adamant Lives!: Click for more images Not quite an Avenger:
Gerald Harper, the terribly British star of the show, has guested in many episodes of the Avengers, and also starred in the 1957 film The League of Gentlemen.

Avengers connections 2:
Brian Clemens, better known as the producer of The Avengers, as well as the less stellar Bugs, wrote the funeral themed episode The Terribly Happy Embalmers. In a strange future echo of another unlikely protector of the innocent, this episode concerned the sinister goings on at a certain Sunnydale Health farm.

From swordstick to Blade Runner:
Ridley Scott, acclaimed director of Hannibal, Gladiator and Alien, also directed several episodes, including The League of Uncharitable Ladies.

Adam Adamant: Click for more images Episode Titles: Adam Adamant Lives! has some predictably wacky episodes, including Sing A Song of Murder, To Set A Deadly Fashion, The Village of Evil, The Sweet Smell of Disaster, and, our favourite, Allah Is Not Always With You.

Theme Tune:
Kathy Kirby sang the super groovy Bond-style theme - watch the clip. The lyrics began "Bold as a knight in white armour/Cold as a shot from a gun..." Despite its sixties sycopation, modern viewers might find it most reminds them of the title theme to Murder Most Horrid.

The Mary Whitehouse Experience:
Creator Sydney Newman revealed in a 1988 interview that a certain campaigner against filth on the box had been one of the inspirations behind Adam Adamant. "I kept on wondering, why does Mary Whitehouse go on that way? I arrived at the conclusion that she had the mind of a Victorian. Then I thought of what would happen if a person from the 1890s was reborn in the Sixties."

Stand and Deliver:
Adam Ant - yes, this show is where the Prince Charming singer got his name from.

Still a dashing fellow: Star Gerald Harper shows that Adamant's athleticism wasn't all just acting with his long term relationship with 11 O'Clock Show presenter Sarah Alexander - forty-two years his junior. Like Adam Adamant, he could well be celebrating his 100th birthday in fine form.
