Steptoe and Son (1964)

The clip should play automatically after a few seconds. If not, click here.

The story of two rag and bone men and life in Shepherd's Bush, London. The father and son hate-hate relationship brought tears to the eyes of viewers from 1962 to 1974. The secret was that despite their mutual dislike of each other, they were totally dependent and would have been lost without the one another.

There were two feature films made and the show was remade in America entitled 'Sanford and Son'. The writing team of Galton and Simpson were also responsible for the excellent Hancock's Half Hour scripts.
