THRONE FOR A LOSS
By Richard Manning
Directed by: Pino Amenta
PLOT
To get some cash, the crew agree to Rygel's plan to transport cargo for a race called the Tavleks. Rygel's negotiated the whole deal, trying to impress the Tavleks by passing himself off as a royal ruler. He wears his few remaining fancy clothes and he even steals one of Moya's control circuits because it looked like a suitably royal gem - but it's all for nothing.
But there is no deal. The Tavleks are a drugged up brute squad, firing energy bolts from strange gauntlets on their arms and they're here to raid Moya. Completely believing Rygel's story and expecting that his 'subjects' will pay ransom, they kidnap him.
This should be the end for Rygel as none of the crew have any reason to want to rescue him - except that suddenly they all do. For that gem he stole is a synaptic processor from Moya's propulsion system and without it they can't leave, they can't shrug their shoulders and wave goodbye to him. If they don't get it back, they can't even sustain orbit.
D'Argo would leave Rygel anyway - but then D'Argo's picked up a Tavlek weapon, a gauntlet, and stupidly put it on. Now it's pumping drugs into him and making an already angry alien into a raging monster who's more dangerous than the Tavleks.
Crichton has to get that gauntlet off D'Argo and then off Aeryn too before he can attempt to rescue Rygel and get back the crystal.
