Candid Camera
Long before Jeremy Beadle first donned a Traffic Warden's outfit
and novelty spectacles to poke fun at unsuspecting members of the
public, the concept of hidden camera television was born in the
USA.
American Allen Funt set the ball rolling by secretly
taping his army buddies complaints and broadcasting them on Armed
Forces Radio.
In 1948 'Candid Microphone' was born and five years
later it moved to TV as 'Candid Camera'. In 1960 the show crossed
the pond and a young star called Bob Monkhouse launched a series
of stunts on an unsuspecting public.
Monkhouse later went on to present
the
Golden Shot,
which made him a household name.
