Not the furry recycling animals from Wimbledon Common but instead human sized versions taking the UK charts by storm and appearing on Top Of The Pops.
Mutated from the children�s programme, singer/songwriter Mike Batt came up with the idea and somehow managed to sustain the interest over eight Top Ten hits, loosely based on their Wimbledon common lifestyle.
Hits included the famous Wombling Song, Remember You�re A Womble and Wombling Merry Christmas.
