Britpop

Britpop exploded thanks to a reinvented indie-fied Reading Festival and the success of home-grown bands Suede, Wonderstuff, Pop Will Eat Itself and Carter.

In 1994 Pulp, Oasis and Blur all released definitive records which set the scene for their future success and well-documented rivalries.

Retro-rockers Oasis released Definitely Maybe (Live Forever, Supersonic, Shakermaker), Blur released new-Mod album Parklife (Boys and Girls, End of a Century) and pseudo-intellectuals Pulp released His'n'Hers (Do You Remember the First Time, Lipgloss).

These releases set the scene for a race to number one between Blur's Country House (the winner) and Oasis's Roll With It in 1995, plus the huge success of Pulp's album Different Class the same year.
