The ex-Beatle was shot dead late at night outside the Dakota building
in New York where he was living. As a member of the world famous
Beatles, he helped shape the music and philosophies of a whole generation.
He had driven back from a recording session and was walking with
his wife Yoko Ono when he was shot at point-blank range with a .38 revolver.
The killer was 25 year old Mark Chapman, who earlier in the day had
been given an autograph by Lennon.
